Common faults and troubleshooting methods for plate heat exchanger units

Author:

Summary:

The unit fault indicator light is on, which means the yellow indicator light on the control cabinet is lit. What should I do? The fault indicator light being on indicates that the corresponding water pump is overloaded, and the motor current exceeds the rated current, triggering the protection of the thermal relay. The method to reset it is to press the reset button on the thermal relay. Note that it must be reset only after the thermal relay has cooled down; otherwise, the reset will be ineffective.

  1. What should I do if the unit fault indicator light is on, meaning the yellow indicator light on the control cabinet is lit? The fault indicator light being on indicates that the corresponding water pump is overloaded, and the motor current exceeds the rated current, triggering the protection of the thermal relay. To reset it, press the reset button on the thermal relay. Note that it must be reset only after the thermal relay has cooled down; otherwise, the reset will be ineffective.

  2. What does it mean if the system has pressure but the pressure gauge shows 0? If the needle valve paired with the pressure gauge is closed, the pressure gauge will always show 0. During system operation, ensure that all needle valves paired with the pressure gauges are fully open.

   3. What does secondary side overpressure mean? What should be done about overpressure? How can secondary system overpressure be prevented? When the system is first running, the secondary temperature is relatively low. After the water supply reaches the set pressure value, as the temperature continues to rise, the pressure in the secondary system will also increase. At this time, first, vent more air, and second, drain water. To drain water, open the drain valve on the secondary return pipe. Once the system temperature stabilizes, the pressure will no longer increase.

  4. How can I determine if the filter is clogged? If the temperature difference between the primary supply water and the primary return water is large, with high-temperature water exceeding 45 degrees and low-temperature water exceeding 30 degrees, and the secondary supply water is not hot, please check if the filter at the primary supply is clogged. If the temperature difference between the secondary supply water and the secondary return water is large, with a floor heating temperature difference exceeding 15 degrees and a radiator heating temperature difference exceeding 30 degrees, and the pressure difference is very small, please check if the filter at the secondary return is clogged.

  5. How can I determine if the heat exchanger is clogged? If the pressure difference between the primary side supply and return water or the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the secondary side heat exchanger exceeds 0.15 MPa, and the secondary supply water is not hot, please check if the heat exchanger is clogged. The method of checking is to disassemble and clean the heat exchanger.

  6. What are the reasons for the system not heating? How should it be analyzed? If the secondary supply water temperature is low and not heating, the analysis has the following reasons: Insufficient primary side supply water flow: Check if all valves in the primary side supply and return pipelines are fully open. Check if the primary supply filter is clogged. If all valves are open, then check the pressure difference between the primary supply and return water. If the pressure difference is less than 0.05 MPa, please ask the heating company to increase the flow. If the pressure difference is greater than 0.15 MPa, please clean the heat exchanger. Secondary side system blockage: Check if all valves in the secondary side supply and return pipelines are fully open. Secondary side filter blockage. If the pressure difference at the inlet and outlet of the secondary side heat exchanger is above 0.15 MPa, the heat exchanger is clogged; please clean the heat exchanger.

  7. What does it mean if the system cannot take in water? The water supply pump keeps running, but the pressure does not rise.

If the water supply pump keeps running but the pressure does not reach the set value, please vent the system. Poor water supply is mostly caused by air accumulation in the system.

  8. What is the reason for the variable frequency water supply not being automatic and the inverter not starting? Check if the switch is in the variable frequency or automatic position; the inverter can only work normally when it is in the variable frequency or automatic position. Check if the start button of the water supply pump is in the running state; the inverter can only work normally when the green indicator light of the water supply pump is on. Check if there are any alarm codes on the inverter's operation panel; numbers starting with F are fault codes, and numbers starting with R are warning codes. Warning codes do not affect the operation of the inverter, but if a fault code appears, the inverter must be reset to continue working. If a fault code appears, please press the EXIT button in the upper left corner of the inverter operation screen. All three conditions must be normal for the variable frequency water supply to work properly.

  9. How to handle when the secondary supply water temperature is too high? If the user feels that the supply water temperature is too high and the room is too hot, a better method is to reduce the primary side supply valve.

Please note that the primary side supply valve must be reduced, while the return valve should be fully open.

  10. What does it mean if the water pump noise is too loud? During one to two heating periods of operation, due to mechanical wear, the noise may increase. Check if the fan cover is loose and vent the pump.

The water pump must be regularly maintained, including adding lubricating oil, replacing worn parts, etc.
