Heat exchangers are devices that transfer part of the heat from a hot fluid to a cold fluid, also known as heat exchangers. Heat exchangers are common equipment in many industrial sectors such as chemical, petroleum, steel, automotive, food, and others, playing an important role in production. Especially in chemical production, heat exchangers can be used as heaters, coolers, condensers, evaporators, and reboilers, among others, and are widely applied.
In recent years, with the rapid development of industries such as petrochemicals and steel in our country, the demand for heat exchangers has significantly increased. However, the supply capacity of domestic enterprises is limited, leading to a market state of supply not meeting demand in the heat exchanger industry, with a huge supply gap needing to be filled by imports.
According to customs statistics, from 2001 to 2005, our country imported an average of 224,900 heat exchangers from abroad each year, with a total amount reaching 1.402 billion USD. Among them, in 2004 alone, 341,100 units were imported, totaling 490 million USD.
Although the export quantity of heat exchangers from our country is also considerable, its scale is far smaller than that of imports. In 2001, the import quantity, amount, and average price of heat exchangers in our country exceeded the export quantity, amount, and average price by 44,640 units, 80.216 million USD, and 245.72 USD/unit, respectively; by 2005, the gap between imports and exports had expanded to 75,667 units, 345.17 million USD, and 1,347.57 USD/unit. This indicates that the growth rate of the heat exchanger market in our country far exceeds the growth rate of supply.
At the same time, the average export price of heat exchangers from our country is less than half of the average import price, dropping below 25% in 2005. It can be imagined that the products we export are mostly low to medium-end products with low added value, while the imported products are mostly high-end products with high added value. This fully illustrates the current market situation in our country where there is a strong demand for high-end heat exchanger products but insufficient supply. It is expected that during the '11th Five-Year Plan' period, the import scale of heat exchangers in our country will remain at a relatively high level (around 2 to 3 million units) and will increasingly focus on high-end products.
According to the Outline of the 11th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development of the People's Republic of China, during the '11th Five-Year Plan' period, our country's economic growth will maintain an average annual rate of 7.5%. As pillar industries, petrochemicals and steel will continue to maintain rapid development momentum, with the total output value of the steel industry expected to exceed 500 billion yuan and the total output value of the chemical industry expected to surpass 400 billion yuan by 2010. The development of these industries will provide broader development space for the heat exchanger industry.
In the future, the domestic market demand will exhibit the following characteristics: higher requirements for product quality levels, such as environmentally friendly and energy-saving products will be the focus of future development; a demand for improved cost-performance ratio; a strong trend for personalized and diversified product demands; gradually paying attention to the selection of branded products; large engineering projects favoring products from large enterprises or corporate groups.
The favorable opportunities brought by domestic economic development, along with the huge convertibility of imported products, jointly indicate a good development prospect for our country's heat exchanger industry. At the same time, the development of the industry must focus on the research and development of high-end products.
