Although they may not be as compact, have lower heat transfer intensity, and consume more metal compared to plate or plate-fin heat exchangers, they still maintain a dominant position in applications within the chemical, petroleum, and energy industries due to the aforementioned advantages. As heat exchangers evolve towards higher temperatures, pressures, and larger sizes, the continuous emergence of new high-efficiency heat transfer tubes has expanded the application range of shell-and-tube heat exchangers, adding new vitality to them.
